Instech Offers Microsurgery Training

Education is a strategic focus for the infusion and sampling products manufacturer based in Plymouth Meeting, PA

In September of 2022, Andrée Lapierre, formerly of The Jackson Laboratory, was enthusiastically hired as the Global Director, Education and Surgical Support. Already a world-renown mouse surgeon with over 25 years of both practical and teaching experience, she spent the remainder of the year honing her skills and expertise in rat surgery by traveling the world, meeting with customers, and building the foundation of what has become Instech's new Education program

Instech has always been a proponent of quality education and relying on good science as a core component of its business strategy, so launching a dedicated program was the logical next step in growth. "For years our oral gavage training videos for both mice and rats have been very popular in helping technicians be more successful in their dosing using flexible plastic feeding tubes," said Wyatt Boughter, Vice President, Marketing. "We wanted to not just continue that focus on quality education, but expand, and the launch of our first Virtual Training Course is just the beginning."

The Education program at Instech already includes a number of blog posts covering a variety of topics including catheter tip shape, positive pressure technique and laminar flow. In April Instech launched its first virtual training course, Rat Jugular Vein Catheterization. "In the course we cover everything from general surgical guidelines to patency optimization to catheter and VAB™ maintenance. It's a thorough three hour program that moves quickly with components that will make any surgeon better, from beginners to the experienced," said Ms. Lapierre. "While I'm excited to start teaching the Rat JVC courses, I've already begun working on the next course - Mouse JVC. I can't wait."
