Instech is now offering heparin-saline in a range of concentrations in 10 and 50mL vials. Studies have indicated that viscous glycerol or dextrose lock solutions with high concentrations of heparin, which can be harmful if accidentally infused into the animal, may not be required for long-term patency with closed, subcutaneous venous catheters. As a result, lower-concentration heparin-saline, which had been previously available only in pre-filled syringes for flushing catheters, is more frequently being used to lock catheters between use.
All of Instech’s flush and lock solutions are manufactured to the USP standard for sterile compounds. The NIH’s Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare requires pharmaceutical-grade substances, indicated by the USP mark on the product, to be used when available.
Due to increasing demand, Instech is now manufacturing the flush and lock solutions in higher volumes, leading to cost savings. Instech is passing on these savings with reduced prices on vials, effective immediately.
