Ports for CSF Infusion and Sampling in Laboratory Animals

Instech Solomon offers two options for laboratory animal CSF access.

LOVOL. To address implanted port applications requiring minimal dead space, Instech Solomon developed the LOVOL ports in the MIN and MID port housing sizes. Each port has a reservoir dead volume about 10% of the amount of the standard SoloPorts™. These LOVOL ports are ideally suited for CSF infusion or withdrawal applications, or any application involving the use of a costly compound to be administered in small volumes. Access these ports with standard 22ga and 24ga Huber point needles and infusion sets.

MIN-CSF-SAM. This is a titanium MIN port with a threaded ventricular guide tube on the underside. It allows direct access to the ventricle with a non-coring spinal needle for repeated CSF sampling from large animals over extended periods. This technique was developed by Maria Wilsson (Sweden) and modified to a port configuration by Dr. Vince Mendenhall while at Charles River Worcester.
